Morrisonville Holds Off Carrollton for 2-1 Victory

On Friday, April 3rd, at Memorial Field in Morrisonville, the Morrisonville Mohawks hosted the Carrollton Hawks in a Friday night baseball matchup. Morrisonville came out on top, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory after seven innings.

Morrisonville took the field with Mason Tryon on the mound, and he delivered a strong performance. Tryon recorded seven strikeouts and added two pick-offs before being pulled in the fifth inning to preserve his arm. Cody Ganther came in for relief and closed out the game, striking out three batters over the final innings.

Carrollton struggled to generate offense for much of the game, as Morrisonville’s pitching kept them in check. The Hawks didn’t get on the board until the sixth inning, when a runner on second scored on a single to left field. That would be Carrollton’s only run of the game.

The Mohawks found their first run early. In the bottom of the first inning, with runners on second and third, Tate Christian stole home on a passed ball to give Morrisonville a 1-0 lead. The score remained unchanged until the fifth inning, when Carson Daughtry, with the bases loaded, also stole home on a passed ball to extend the lead to 2-0.

After Carrollton cut the deficit to one in the sixth inning, Morrisonville faced pressure to either add insurance or hold strong defensively. The Mohawks were unable to add another run in the bottom half of the inning, but their pitching and defense stepped up in the seventh.

Ganther shut the door, recording the final three outs to secure the win and complete the 2-1 victory for Morrisonville.
