Monticello Varsity Sages Roll Past St. Teresa in 16-0 Shutout Victory

The Monticello Varsity Sages delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday, cruising to a 16-0 shutout win over St. Teresa in a game that showcased both explosive offense and efficient pitching.

Monticello wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Isabella Beery got things started by drawing a walk with the bases loaded, bringing in the game’s first run. Moments later, Ali Weidner ripped a single that drove in two more runs, giving the Sages a quick 3-0 advantage.

The offense continued to roll in the second inning. Beery added to her strong start with a sacrifice fly to bring another run across the plate, and Madison Highland followed with an RBI single, extending Monticello’s lead and keeping pressure on the St. Teresa defense.

The game broke wide open in the third inning, when the Sages erupted for seven runs on six hits. Reese Stiger highlighted the inning with a solo home run to left field, while Thea Key drew a bases-loaded walk to score another run. Beery came through again with a two-run single, and Highland matched that effort with a two-RBI single of her own. Weidner capped off the inning with an RBI single, pushing the lead to a commanding margin.

Monticello’s offense finished the game with 12 hits and showed excellent discipline at the plate, drawing nine walks. Key and Stiger each worked two walks, helping fuel multiple scoring opportunities throughout the game. The Game ended after the 4th Inning with the Monticello Sages taking victory over St Teresa Bulldogs in a 16-0 performance.

In the circle, Madison Highland delivered a strong performance to earn the win. The starter pitched four shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out one and walking one. Highland kept St. Teresa off balance all game, preventing any serious scoring threats.

Beery played a key role in the middle of the lineup, driving in a team-high three runs despite just one official at-bat. Highland led the team offensively with three hits in three at-bats, while Weidner added two hits and multiple RBIs. The Sages also contributed defensively, turning a double play to maintain control of the game.

With the win, Monticello continues to build momentum as the season progresses. The Sages will look to carry that energy into their next matchup when they travel to Glenwood on Thursday
