The Maroa-Forsyth Trojans bounced back in impressive fashion Thursday night, going on the road and defeating the St. Teresa Bulldogs in straight sets to secure a 2-0 victory.
Coming off a competitive three-set loss to undefeated Pana earlier in the week, Maroa-Forsyth entered Thursday looking to respond. The Trojans did exactly that, controlling both sets and finishing the night with victories of 25-19 and 25-15.
Maroa-Forsyth established itself early in the opening set. The Trojans consistently created separation on the scoreboard, preventing St. Teresa from putting together the sustained run it needed to close the gap. With a balanced effort and steady play, Maroa-Forsyth reached the finish line first for a 25-19 opening-set victory.
The Bulldogs attempted to answer in the second, but the Trojans continued to dictate the match.
Maroa-Forsyth remained composed throughout the frame and again found ways to string together points. St. Teresa battled to remain within striking distance, but the Trojans maintained their advantage and eventually closed the second set 25-15, completing the sweep.
The victory came at an important time for a Maroa-Forsyth squad that had shown plenty of fight just two nights earlier against Pana. In that match, the Trojans responded to a first-set loss with a dominant 25-14 victory in the second before ultimately falling 25-21 in the deciding third set.
Thursday’s performance allowed Maroa-Forsyth to turn that competitiveness into a win.
It also continued a difficult stretch for St. Teresa. The Bulldogs entered the matchup after falling to Argenta-Oreana in straight sets earlier in the week, 25-23 and 25-16.
For Maroa-Forsyth, the straight-set road victory provided a strong response and an opportunity to build momentum as the season continues. Rather than allowing Tuesday’s loss to linger, the Trojans took care of business against the Bulldogs and walked out of Decatur with a convincing sweep.
