Monticello struggled to find its rhythm early against Urbana U-High, coming out flat as the visitors controlled the pace and built a 3-0 lead in the first half.
Needing a spark in the second half, the Sages responded with urgency. Maddie Saiger broke through with a goal with 15 minutes remaining to cut into the deficit. She struck again with just 54 seconds left, bringing Monticello within one and giving them a final surge of momentum.
Despite the late rally, the comeback effort came up just short as Monticello fell 3-2.
