Charleston Ends Taylorville’s Season in Regional Opener

The Taylorville Tornadoes saw their postseason run come to an end Tuesday night, falling to Charleston 6-3 in the opening round of regional play to finish the season 16-12 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Charleston jumped ahead early with a four-run second inning. Rylee Lewis delivered a two-run double to center field, and Lainie Keefer added an RBI double later in the inning to give the Trojans control.

Taylorville answered in the third when Peyton DeMichael lined an RBI single to left field, scoring Carsen Corzine to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The Tornadoes continued to battle in the fifth inning. Grace Rogers ripped an RBI single to center to score Corzine, and Peyton DeMichael later crossed the plate on a groundout by Kenzley Heimsness, trimming the lead to just 4-3.

Charleston responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning when Raylin Cox crushed a two-run home run to center field, extending the lead back to three runs and sealing the regional victory for the Trojans.

Carsen Corzine went the distance in the circle for Taylorville, striking out six over six innings. Offensively, Peyton DeMichael led the Tornadoes with three hits and an RBI.
