Tremont Holds Off Clinton in Competitive Two-Set Victory

Tremont came away with a two-set victory over Clinton on Monday night at Clinton High School, but not before the Maroons pushed the Turks to the limit in a thrilling second set.

Tremont controlled the opening set behind strong defense, clean passing and consistent setting that allowed its offense to stay in rhythm. A major difference-maker was #0 Nora Parsons, whose powerful attacks repeatedly challenged Clinton’s back, and front row. The speed and force behind Parsons’ kills made it difficult for the Maroons to establish their defense early.

Clinton began to find some energy late in the opening set, but Tremont had already created enough separation to maintain control and secure a 25-16 first-set victory.

The second set was a completely different battle.

Clinton came out with renewed energy and grabbed an early lead, showing an immediate response after dropping the opener. The Maroons were more composed defensively and found ways to extend rallies, forcing Tremont to work for nearly every point.

As the set progressed, neither side was willing to give much ground. Long rallies featured digs, saves and aggressive attacks from both teams as Clinton and Tremont remained neck-and-neck down the stretch.

Clinton continued to battle with an opportunity to force a deciding third set, but Tremont managed to make the final plays it needed. With the set pushed beyond the traditional 25-point mark, the Turks eventually escaped with a narrow 26-24 victory to complete the sweep.

While Tremont controlled much of the first set, Clinton’s performance in the second showed the Maroons were capable of matching the Turks’ intensity and competing point-for-point. What began as a convincing night for Tremont turned into a fight to the finish.

Tremont ultimately earned the 2-0 victory, 25-16, 26-24, while Clinton walked away from its home court after an impressive second-set effort that nearly extended the match.

Final: Tremont 2, Clinton 0
Set scores: 25-16, 26-24
