In one of the most anticipated matchups of the postseason, Rochester and Sacred Heart-Griffin delivered a classic Friday night showdown. The Rockets controlled the scoreboard for most of the game, but the Cyclones answered every punch, refusing to let their rivals pull away. By halftime, the two state powerhouses were knotted at 14–14—exactly the kind of battle fans expected from two top-tier programs with semifinal hopes on the line.
The second half brought more of the same: toughness, grit, and momentum swings from both sidelines. Rochester appeared poised to seal the win late in regulation, lining up for a crucial field goal on fourth down. The kick looked perfect off the foot—but heartbreakingly clanged off the upright, keeping SHG alive and forcing overtime.
The Cyclones opened OT with the ball, but the Rockets’ defense came up with the play of the night. Khornell Gregory stepped in front of a pass for a game-changing interception, swinging all the momentum to Rochester.
With the door open, the Rockets needed just one more spark—and they got it. Jorey Myren found another gear, punching in the touchdown that lifted Rochester to a dramatic overtime victory and secured their spot in the 4A semifinals. The Rockets win 41-35 in OT.
A rivalry game, a playoff stage, and a finish fans will be talking about for years—Rochester earned it, and SHG proved once again why they’re one of the toughest teams in Illinois. Now the Rockets move on, one win away from a shot at the state title.
