After falling behind early, the Mt. Zion Braves offense came alive in a dominant 11-1 victory over the Taylorville Tornadoes on Tuesday night.
Taylorville struck first in the opening inning when Maxx Grieme launched a solo home run to left field to give the Tornadoes a 1-0 lead. That would be the lone bright spot offensively for Taylorville, which finished with just two hits on the night.
Mt. Zion answered immediately in the third inning as Evan Howley crushed a two-run homer to left field to put the Braves in front 2-1. Kellen Bollhorst followed later in the inning with an RBI double, and Davis Venters added an RBI single as Mt. Zion stretched the lead to 4-1.
The Braves kept pouring it on in the fourth. Keegan Durbin drove in a run with an RBI single before Connor Fox blasted a two-run homer to left to make it 7-1. Bollhorst continued his huge night with another RBI double to extend the advantage to 8-1.
Mt. Zion put the game away in the fifth inning. Fox ripped a two-run single to center scoring Durbin and Landon Workman, while Brock Foster added a sacrifice fly to cap the 11-run performance.
Connor Fox led the Braves offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Kellen Bollhorst collected two doubles and drove in two runs, while Evan Howley added a two-run homer and Brock Foster scored twice.
Fox also earned the win on the mound, tossing five innings while allowing just two hits and one run with four strikeouts.
