The Tri-City TCSVMP Tornadoes battled back from a late deficit to defeat the Pleasant Plains Cardinals 7-4 in a strong varsity softball performance.
The Tornadoes struck first in the bottom of the second inning. After Roxxi Galassi entered as a courtesy runner, Lauren Gideon delivered a single to center field, bringing Galassi home and giving TCSVMP a 1-0 lead.
Pleasant Plains answered in the third inning when Lexie Shimkus singled to left field, scoring Delaney Murphy to tie the game at 1-1.
The Cardinals then moved in front in the fourth inning. Reese Cline reached base and later scored during Paige Sours’ sacrifice bunt, putting Pleasant Plains ahead 2-1.
Pleasant Plains added to its lead in the fifth inning. Anna Nestler brought in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Reese Cline followed with an RBI single to left field, extending the Cardinals’ lead to 4-1.
The Tornadoes responded in a big way in the bottom of the fifth. Lauren Gideon started the inning with a single, followed by an Ava Pulliam base hit. After Audrey Cooper reached on a fielder’s choice and Lexi Patton walked, Tiffany Farley came through with a key single to left field. Farley’s hit scored Ava Pulliam and Audrey Cooper, cutting the deficit to 4-3.
Hanna Ferriell then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Kherrington Hilbert and tying the game at 4-4. Lily Woodworth followed with an RBI single, bringing home Tiffany Farley and giving the Tornadoes a 5-4 lead.
TCSVMP added insurance in the sixth inning when Hayli Ferriell blasted a solo home run to left field, extending the lead to 6-4. Later in the inning, Tiffany Farley drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Ava Pulliam, making it 7-4.
Farley led the Tornadoes offensively with three RBIs, while Hayli Ferriell added a home run and an RBI. Lauren Gideon finished with two hits and an RBI, and Lily Woodworth helped her own cause with a hit and an RBI.
In the circle, Woodworth earned the win with a complete-game effort. She allowed four runs, only two earned, while striking out eight and walking just one.
Pleasant Plains competed throughout the game, collecting nine hits and taking a 4-1 lead before the Tornadoes’ late rally. Reese Cline, Lexie Shimkus, Aspen Kitowski, Delaina Manuel, and Anna Nestler all helped create offensive chances for the Cardinals.
The difference came in the fifth and sixth innings, where the Tornadoes combined timely hitting, patient at-bats, and strong pitching to finish off a 7-4 comeback victory. Offensive surge to secure an impressive 7-4 comeback victory.
