Bailey Dominates, Kiger Saves, as Sages Blank Warrensburg-Latham

Behind a dominant performance on the mound and timely situational hitting, the Monticello Sages secured a 1-0 shutout victory over Warrensburg-Latham in a tightly contested pitcher’s duel.

In a game where runs were at a premium, Jax Bailey delivered a masterclass performance for Monticello. The right-hander went seven strong innings, allowing just three hits while striking out eight and issuing no walks. Bailey was in complete control throughout, consistently working ahead in the count and shutting down any momentum Warrensburg-Latham attempted to build.

The Sages’ defense backed him up with a clean performance, committing no errors and making several key plays to preserve the shutout.

Offensively, Monticello managed just enough to get the job done. The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning after a hard-fought battle at the plate. Grant Kiger came through in the clutch with an RBI single, driving in Koyie Williams, who had reached base earlier in the inning.

Kiger led the Sages at the plate, going 2-for-4 with the game’s only RBI. Williams also contributed with a hit and scored the decisive run, while Zeke Young added a hit as Monticello totaled four hits on the day.

Despite limited offensive production, the Sages showed patience and discipline, drawing four walks and applying pressure late in the game when it mattered most.

Warrensburg-Latham had a few opportunities to break through but was unable to capitalize against Bailey and the Monticello defense. The Cardinals scattered three hits and struck out nine times as a team.

With the victory, Monticello showcased its ability to win in multiple ways — leaning on elite pitching, strong defense, and timely hitting in a tightly contested matchup.

The Sages will look to carry that momentum forward as they continue their season, with Bailey’s performance setting the tone for what the team hopes will be a strong stretch ahead.
