Pioneers Break Through in Extras, Hand Rochester 6-0 Loss in 10 Innings

The Rochester Rockets and Normal University Pioneers battled through a tense, scoreless pitchers duel that stretched into extra innings before the Pioneers finally broke through for a 6-0 victory in 10 innings.

For nine innings, both teams showcased dominant defense and strong pitching. Rochester defense consistently shut down threats, while U-High managed to get runners on base at times but could not capitalize. The game moved quickly despite the extra frames, with both pitchers keeping hitters off balance and limiting scoring opportunities.

Rochester ace Jaelyn Watts was outstanding in the circle, throwing 8.0 scoreless innings while allowing just five hits and striking out 10. She worked out of multiple jams and kept the Rockets in position to win throughout regulation. However, the Pioneers found an answer in the 10th.

The turning point came in the top of the inning when U-High launched a go-ahead home run to finally break the scoreless tie. With momentum on their side, the Pioneers continued to produce with two outs, stringing together key hits to extend the lead to six runs before the inning ended.

Rochester could not respond in the bottom half, as U-High pitching and defense remained sharp to close out the win.

Offensively, the Rockets were limited to seven hits. Kendall Edmonson led the way, going 3-for-5 at the plate. Emmah Brown, Peyton Purves, Jaelyn Watts, and Isabella Harness each added a hit, but Rochester could not generate timely offense.

U-High, on the other hand, totaled 12 hits in the game. Meera Sundaram and Lola Phillips each collected two hits, while Jersey Katz also added a pair. Makenzie Post provided the biggest swing of the night with the decisive home run and finished with three RBIs. Avery Moody and Ava Plattner each chipped in a hit, helping the Pioneers finally break through in extras.

In the circle for U-High, Adia Wheelwright delivered a complete game gem, tossing all 10 innings while allowing seven hits and striking out eight to earn the shutout victory.

Despite the loss, Rochester showed resilience in a tightly contested game that remained within reach until the final inning, but U-High late offensive surge proved to be the difference.
