Tornadoes Open Season in Dominant Fashion Behind Woodworth

TCSVMP (Tri-City/Sangamon Valley/Mt. Pulaski) made a statement in their season opener, shutting out Argenta-Oreana 11-0 behind a dominant performance in the circle from Lily Woodworth.

There was plenty of anticipation heading into this matchup, as Woodworth and Argenta-Oreana’s Elyssa Armstrong are very familiar with each other from years of playing club softball together. Early on, both pitchers lived up to the hype.

The game remained scoreless through four innings, with both teams working through some early-season nerves while the pitchers controlled the pace. Hits were hard to come by, and neither side could find a breakthrough.

That changed in the fourth inning when the Tornadoes finally broke through. TCSVMP plated two runs to take a 2-0 lead, giving Woodworth all the support she would ultimately need.

From there, the Tornadoes’ offense exploded.

In the fifth inning, TCSVMP took full control, erupting for six runs to extend the lead to 8-0. They didn’t let up in the sixth, adding three more runs to push the lead to 11-0 and secure the run-rule victory.

Meanwhile, Woodworth was nearly untouchable in the circle. She tossed a complete game, allowing just one hit while striking out 10 and not allowing a single runner to reach scoring position.

At the plate, TCSVMP showcased its depth and firepower:

  • Hanna Ferriell led the way with 3 hits and 3 RBIs
  • Hayli Ferriell added 2 hits and an RBI
  • Lily Woodworth helped her own cause with 2 hits
  • The Tornadoes totaled 12 hits and 8 RBIs as a team

Argenta-Oreana managed just one hit on the day, as Armstrong battled but was met with a relentless Tornadoes lineup.

TCSVMP starts the season 1-0 and looks every bit like a team with the talent and depth to make noise this spring.
