On a season filled with grit and growth, the final chapter for the Taylorville Tornadoes was written Wednesday night.
In the IHSA Class 3A Regional Semifinals, Taylorville squared off against the Glenwood Titans at Triad High School in Troy. With a trip to the regional championship on the line, the Tornadoes fought until the final buzzer but ultimately fell to the Titans, 52–31, bringing their 2025–26 campaign to a close.
First Half: Titans Set the Tone
Taylorville controlled the opening tip, but any early momentum was quickly met by a suffocating Glenwood defense. The Titans packed the paint, closed out hard on shooters, and rotated with precision on every possession. Every drive to the rim was contested. Every pass around the arc was pressured.
Simply put, Glenwood made it clear from the opening minutes: nothing would come easy.
The Tornadoes struggled to find clean looks, forced to rely on contested three-point attempts and trips to the free-throw line to generate offense. Meanwhile, Glenwood’s efficiency on the other end began to create separation. Crisp ball movement led to open shots, and second-chance opportunities fueled a steady climb on the scoreboard.
By halftime, the Titans held firm control with a 32–13 advantage.
Second Half: Fighting Until the End
With their season on the line, Taylorville came out of the locker room with renewed energy and urgency. Defensive intensity picked up. The physicality increased. The Tornadoes attacked loose balls and battled on the boards, determined to chip away at the deficit.
But Glenwood remained composed.
The Titans capitalized on rebounds and converted turnovers into easy points in transition. Even as emotions ran high — as they often do in regional play — Glenwood’s defensive structure never wavered. Taylorville continued to fight, but shots refused to fall consistently against the Titans’ disciplined pressure.
In postseason basketball, momentum is everything. And on this night, it belonged to Glenwood.
When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read 52–31 in favor of the Titans, ending Taylorville’s season in the regional semifinals.
A Season to Remember
Though the loss stings, it does not define the Tornadoes’ season. Taylorville battled through challenges, showed resilience, and represented its community with pride all winter long. Wednesday night may have marked their final game, but it also highlighted the heart and effort that carried them throughout the year.
For the seniors, it was the last time wearing Tornadoes purple and gold on a basketball court — a moment filled with emotion, reflection, and appreciation. We wish you the best of luck on your futures.
Congratulations to Glenwood as they advance to Friday’s Regional Championship. And to Taylorville: thank you for a memorable 2025–26 season. The scoreboard may have ended the journey, but the fight, growth, and pride shown by this team will not be forgotten.
