Potters Outlast Rockets in Overtime Thriller, 69-62

On Wednesday night at 7 p.m. inside the Rochester Athletic Center, the Rochester Rockets hosted the Morton Potters in a game that delivered more than four quarters of intense, hard-fought basketball. In the end, it was Morton who escaped with a 69-62 overtime victory, but not without a battle.

First Half

The Rockets wasted no time setting the tone. Just seconds after the opening tip, Rochester attacked the basket and scored the game’s first points, igniting the home crowd and signaling that this would be a competitive matchup from start to finish.

Morton answered immediately, driving strong to the hoop and proving they were ready for the challenge. The first half turned into a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading the lead multiple times. While the Potters controlled possession slightly more and held the lead for longer stretches, Rochester never let the game slip away.

The Rockets played with relentless energy—diving for loose balls, pushing the tempo, and matching Morton’s physicality on both ends of the floor. Defensively, both teams applied pressure, each trying to disrupt the other’s rhythm. At halftime, Morton held a slim 26-25 lead, leaving everything up for grabs in the final two quarters.

Second Half

The intensity ramped up after the break. Physical play led to a flurry of fouls, and free throws quickly became a key factor. Morton capitalized at the line, converting the majority of their attempts to build a small cushion. Rochester, meanwhile, struggled to cash in consistently on their opportunities, which proved costly.

Despite that, the Rockets refused to back down. They continued attacking the rim, knocking down open shots from beyond the arc, and crashing the boards for key rebounds. It was arguably Rochester’s strongest performance of the season, and their effort showed as they battled back in the fourth quarter.

With just under 10 seconds remaining and trailing, the Rockets delivered in the clutch. A late three-pointer tied the game at 51-51, sending the crowd into a frenzy and forcing overtime.

Overtime

In the extra period, both teams continued to trade baskets, but fouls once again played a decisive role. Morton remained steady at the free-throw line, converting key shots to maintain control. Rochester had opportunities to respond but couldn’t string together enough stops and scores to overtake the Potters.

As the final seconds ticked away, Morton secured the 69-62 victory.

The Rockets may have fallen short, but they made Morton earn every bit of the win. It was a gritty, determined performance by Rochester—one that proved they can compete with anyone when they bring that level of intensity to the court.
