Shelbyville Sweeps St. Teresa Behind Balanced Offensive Attack

The Shelbyville Rams put together a strong all-around performance on the road Wednesday night, defeating the St. Teresa Bulldogs in straight sets, 25-13, 25-11.

Shelbyville traveled to St. Teresa one night after earning a three-set victory over Clinton. Rather than showing any signs of slowing down, the Rams controlled Wednesday’s match from the opening set and completed the sweep without allowing the Bulldogs to reach 15 points in either frame.

The Rams opened with a 25-13 victory in the first set, establishing an early advantage before carrying that momentum into the second. St. Teresa continued to compete, but Shelbyville’s combination of offensive production, serving and defense proved difficult to overcome.

Shelbyville finished the night with an even more decisive 25-11 victory in the second set to secure the 2-0 sweep.

Brynly Rice-Delgado delivered one of Shelbyville’s most complete performances. She led the Rams with eight kills while adding three aces, seven service points, six digs and a block.

Avery Bland added five kills and a block, while Cambrie Lebon recorded three kills and a dig. Taya Wiley contributed two kills to go along with a team-high 10 assists, four service points and four digs. Meiya Thompson and Brielle Ko each added to the attack as well, with Thompson recording a kill, two blocks and two digs and Ko finishing with two kills, a block and a dig.

Shelbyville also received strong production from its back row and setters. Ava Corley finished with five assists and eight digs, while Debra Jones recorded eight digs, two assists, two aces and seven service points.

The Rams’ serving helped complement their offensive attack. In addition to Rice-Delgado’s three aces, Jones recorded two and Madie Mitchell added an ace while contributing four service points.

For St. Teresa, Wednesday’s match came just days after the Bulldogs picked up straight-set victories over Tri-Point and Ridgeview during weekend tournament action. The Bulldogs were unable to generate the same success against a Shelbyville squad that remained consistent throughout both sets.

The victory improved Shelbyville to 8-9 overall and 2-0 in conference play, according to the Rams’ team stat sheet. After needing three sets to get past Clinton Tuesday, Shelbyville followed with a more decisive performance less than 24 hours later.

The Rams will have another quick turnaround, traveling to Mt. Zion on Thursday, Sept. 24 for their next match.
